This post has been a long time coming. Stella’s room has never been completely finished for the entire 2 and a half years we have been in this house. When we found out we had a baby girl on the way, we transitioned S into a “big girl” bed and began prepping the room to be their sweet little shared girls bedroom. When we lost the baby I had a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that this room was no longer going to be that, and so it sat – half finished and painful to look at – for a while.
Once I was ready I decided that I wanted to make this space extra special for Stella. She was hurting too, and she deserved a special space of her own that she could play, dream, learn, grow, and all around just be a normal kid in.
I drew inspiration for this space from her personality. She is girlie. She is wild. She is full of dreams and she has the best imagination. I let her tell me what she loved and help me with all of the design decisions. And by that I mean I heard a lot of “No Mom, that’s not pink. Pink is my favorite color…”
What we came up with was a sweet, feminine but modern whimsical girl’s room with lots of blush, gold, and black accents for some fun contrast.
It is a room that is all her own, with sweet reminders of her baby sister sprinkled throughout.
This precious little canopy area is Stella’s favorite part of her new room. She spends so much time in here reading to her stuffed animals, playing, and doing puzzles. I added a really sweet whimsical touch to this basic canopy by wrapping a greenery garland from Hobby Lobby around the string that hangs it from the ceiling and hot glueing a variety of faux flowers around it.
And of course, this doll house from Hearth and Hand along with our family of wooden peg dolls I made for her is always a hit. She loves playing with it, and I adore the way it looks and the way it ties in perfectly with the black and white accents in her room.
My absolute very favorite part of this room is the precious bedding from Beddy’s. I reached out to them because I was completely in love with the concept of their bedding, and all of their designs are cute to boot!
We chose the Goldie Dots twin bedding set and the Blushed blanket for the foot of the bed. I just adore the way they look on her beautiful black iron bed, and the way they match her room in general. But you guys… they have SO many cute designs for girls, boys, and even grown ups!
My favorite feature of Beddy’s bedding, and the thing that originally drew me to it, is that it zips up on the sides! The entire piece fits over the bed like a fitted sheet, and then it unzips like a giant sleeping bag. I love this concept because A. It makes it super easy for kids to make their own beds, and B. We wanted to go straight to a twin bed instead of a toddler bed but I wasn’t crazy about the idea of a guard rail, so this is the perfect solution because when she is all zipped in it is pretty hard for her to fall out of bed. And by that I mean it hasn’t happened once. Zipper bedding for the win!
My second favorite feature is the minky fabric lining on the inside. It is the absolute softest, coziest bedding ever and our girl sleeps like a champ in it every night.
And I mean, just how cute are all of those sweet ruffle details? We are in love. You can learn more about Beddy’s and check out all the darling styles they have to offer HERE.
We paired her Beddy’s with a couple of sweet blush throw pillows we already had, and of course no kid’s bed is complete without of few of their favorite stuffed friends.
We are so happy with the way this sweet room turned out. We love the way it looks. We love the way it perfectly matches her little personality. But most of all, I love that she now has a space that she adores. A space that she feels proud of because she helped Mommy design it. A space that she feels safe and secure in. And most of all a space that makes her feel special and happy and loved. It is such a sweet space for our sweet girl, and we all absolutely adore it.
