Happy Friday! I am so excited to share with you my office space / den mini-makeover. For this room, we kind of had to make-do with what we had when we moved in. (You can find previous details on this space here.) It just wasn’t really in the budget to buy a lot of new things for it at that point. I actually really liked how it came together, and I was super proud of myself for spending very little money on it. Now here we are almost a year later, and we were finally ready to bring my full vision for this space to life. (I have linked up as many product sources or similar sources as possible at the bottom of this post. Be sure to check them out below!)
When we moved in we bought the chairs, chandelier, and some of the accessories new, but everything else we brought over with us from our old house – including the IKEA bookshelf we have owned since college, and the worn out rug that was in a very high traffic area of our last house. We were ready for a refresh!
My vision for this space was to create a very stylish, neutral space so that I can bring in whatever colors I feel like throughout the changing seasons. I am absolutely in love with the way this den mini-makeover turned out! It definitely feels more “me” now.
The first and biggest change in this space was this showstopper of a jute rug that I picked out courtesy of hayneedle.com. I have been wanting a jute rug in here for quite some time, and I am obsessed with the gorgeous quality of this one. And that super cute fringe detail! In. Love. As much as I liked the old blue rug, I really felt like it was competing when I tried bringing other colors into the space (especially that Christmas red!). I am actually considering moving the blue rug to our bedroom, but we shall see. This feels like a much better, neutral base for this space, and now the decorating possibilities are endless!
We switched out the crate table my husband and I built for our last house with this pretty pedestal table that used to be in my daughter’s nursery. It was light gray, but I spray painted it black. I am so drawn to the contrast of black accents in light neutral spaces lately and I really love the way it looks in here!
The next furniture piece we switched out was my old college bookshelf. We replaced it with this absolutely perfect Emerson Shelving Unit from World Market. I can’t even tell you how long I have had my eye on this gorgeous thing. YOU GUYS. It is everything I wanted in this space. I love how open it feels, and the details on this thing are seriously beautiful.
I shopped my house to style it up, and added this pretty little faux Fiddle Leaf Fig in the corner, because hi, I have a serious black thumb. I already killed poor Fiona and I don’t want to subject another innocent fig to the same fate, so this is a good solution for me. I am actually really impressed with how real it looks in person!
How cute is that personalized “grateful thankful blessed” print from Jibe Prints? More on that beauty coming to the blog next week!
See what I mean about the gorgeous details of this bookshelf?? All the heart eyes!
The other side of this space is our entryway. This essentially stayed the same with the exception of those buckets the topiaries are in. They used to be a shiny silver and I spray painted them matte black, because if you can’t tell I’m kind of obsessed with black and white. I love the contrast these provide!
Our informal entryway stayed exactly the same other than this cute burnt orange Fall floral stem. It actually got here by accident when I put it on these hooks to remind myself to return it. Well guess what? It isn’t getting returned now!
A new bookshelf, a new rug, a few new accessories, and a can of spray paint were all it took to completely transform the look of this space. I am so in love with the result of our den mini-makeover. I feel like this space suits my style so much more now, and I have a lot more freedom when it comes to changing up my decor and adding in pops of color.
If you have a space in your home that doesn’t totally feel like “you”, don’t be intimidated by it. You don’t have to spend a fortune to change the entire look and style of a room. It can be done so quickly, easily, and inexpensively. A new rug can make a huge difference, choose a couple of key furniture pieces to replace if you aren’t crazy about them, and figure out what you can do on your own with a little bit of paint. Happy frugal room flipping!
