Happy weekend everyone! I am back today with the next room in our home tour.
Our living room is where we spend the majority of our time as a family. It is where our daughter runs around and plays with her toys. It is where we entertain our guests and spend time with friends. It is where my husband and I snuggle up with a glass of wine after the baby is in bed and watch a movie or catch up on our shows. I wanted it to be cozy and personal but still stylish. I used lots of neutrals and natural elements and carried the industrial farmhouse style through this room. We used lots of metals and natural wood tones, and then brightened it up with whites, textures, pops of blue, and a few more feminine elements.
Our TV cabinet is probably my favorite piece of furniture that we own. It is a sideboard from World Market, and it was one of the first pieces we bought for the new house. It actually provided the inspiration for much of the decor throughout the entire house. I styled the top with a mixture of textures and industrial farmhouse elements, some greenery, and one of my hand lettered calligraphy chalkboard signs. This is the focal point of the room, and I think that having a pretty furniture piece and some fun decor makes that 60 inch black hole on the wall a little more bearable!
Fiona the fiddle leaf fig sits pretty in the front corner of this room. Please excuse her brown spots. She is still a little angry at me for moving her away from her home on my in-laws patio, but she did just sprout two new leaves, so I guess me and my black thumb must be doing something right!
I truly love this space, but if there is one thing I would change it would be this monstrosity of a couch that we moved with us from our old condo. I think that a white or light linen colored couch would look so beautiful in this space, and someday I would love to get one. But since that is not currently in the budget, do you know what is cheaper than a new couch? New throw pillows! Pillows and throws can do wonders to freshen up the look of a couch, and I love their versatility and how easy they are to switch out to change up the look of the whole room. Plus, they are so cozy! “I don’t want to snuggle up on a couch with a million pillows and plush blankets” said no one ever!
The ceiling fan is one of my favorite parts if this room. We hunted for ceiling fans for a while and couldn’t find anything that we were both crazy about, but then we saw this puppy and snatched it up the second we laid eyes on it. (Two of them actually! We have the same one in our bedroom too.)This style is exactly what we were looking for and I love that the blades perfectly mimic our flooring.
With a toddler running around, I knew that a large ottoman instead of a coffee table was a must. I fell head over heels in love with this ottoman, also from World Market (I swear I’m not advertising for them! I’m just a little obsessed and own probably 70% of their inventory in my home but that’s a topic for another day). I love the way the ottoman adds an elegant touch and softens up this space.
As far as rugs go, I really wanted a natural jute rug to ground this room, but I also wanted something soft and comfortable for our little girl to play on. I searched for a rug for this room for longer than I would like to admit and finally landed on this jute and chenille rug. I like that it still has the natural look I was hoping for, but it is soft enough for little feet.
We live in a row style home, so this floor is our main living area and consists of one long room great room which includes the kitchen, dining room, and living room. As a result, the wall behind the couch is super long, and the nine foot ceilings make it super tall as well. I racked my brain for quite a while trying to figure out how to decorate this wall. I wanted to hang a large mirror above the dining table, so I knew I needed more than just one piece of art behind the couch. I came up with this gallery wall that we built around this gorgeous world map and included shelves to display a few family photos and other decorative items that hold special meaning to our family and personalize the space.
Overall our living room is cozy and functional. It fits our style and personalities, and it is one of my favorite spaces to enjoy time with my little family day in and day out.
Thank you so much for joining me on our living room tour today! The next room will be coming to the blog soon, so stay tuned!
