Welcome to Belle Amour Blog! Here you will find home. You will find DIY projects and tutorials. You will find ideas for decorating on a budget. You will find inspiration. You will find beauty. I am so excited to share my love of home, design, decor, and creating with you.
In 2015 we bought our very first house – a brand new three story attached “row style” home. During the building process, we had so much fun customizing our house to fit our style, personality, and budget, and now I am having so much fun decorating and turning it into the home we have been dreaming of for years. It is still a work in progress, and we are constantly working on new projects, finishing up rooms, and adding more personal touches as we go.
For my first blog post, I thought I would give you a tour of the first room in our home, and one of my very favorites. The first floor houses our garage, entryway, powder room, and den/office space. While we were building, my husband and I went back and forth over who would get the den and who would get the spare bedroom for their office. I am happy to say that I won the den! Mostly because this is the first room you see when you walk through the front door. Really all I had to say was that this room needed to be clean 24/7, and he basically threw it at me. Ok, I kid a little. He did also need to be able to close the door to his office as he works from home and our one year old hasn’t quite mastered the art of “quiet time” yet. So really it was a win/win. He is happy to have an office in which he can close out the noise when need be, and I am happy to be able to close his door when the room becomes less than aesthetically pleasing. (Haha I am totally teasing him… sorry babe! It’s all in good fun. He really is the best.) Anyways, I am so excited to have the Den as my office space to decorate and do with as I please! In the main living areas of our home (tours for those coming soon) I generally try to decorate with a good mix of masculine and feminine elements so that my husband loves and feels comfortable in our home too. Thankfully our styles are very similar, so there really isn’t too much compromising that has to happen, but regardless. It is really fun to each have a space that is 100% all our own that we can have absolute creative freedom in.
Without further ado, here is our first floor den / entryway:
In this den space I wanted to incorporate lots of textures, patterns, and pops of color. Blue is a recurring color throughout the majority or our house, so I tied a brighter shade of it into this more feminine space with the rug, and added some fun pops of yellow with the pillows and floral accents. I centered a bright white desk in the room, and then grounded it with the darker furniture and black iron chandelier. I added function with the bookshelf bins to house office supplies and books, and added personal touches with my hand painted calligraphy chalkboard sign and the windows that my brother-in-law made for our wedding. I kept the room feeling feminine with the tufted chairs, and added in some more texture and color by popping some eucalyptus in an old galvanized bucket.
This room gets passed through every day, but it doesn’t get the heavy use that our main living areas do, so I wanted to create this space on a budget and save any “splurges” we may need for the other rooms. I was able to repurpose a bit of the furniture that we brought over from our last little condo, DIY some, and majority of the rest of furniture and decor was purchased from World Market, Home Goods, Target, and IKEA. Also, in case you aren’t familiar with it – World Market’s Explorer rewards and coupons are my secret weapon. I shop there alot and have saved so much money that way! I want my home to be a testament to the fact that beautiful, stylish, affordable spaces are possible! This space makes me smile every time I see it, and I love that it is the first room to greet our guests when they walk through the front door. It is so bright, airy, and inviting and it sets the tone for the rest of the house.
